The next-gen version of Rockstar Games' hit action-adventure game, Grand Theft Auto 5, and it's online sandbox mode, GTA Online, has been delayed and will now launch in March 2022. A trailer for the game was shown during the PlayStation Showcase, welcoming fans back to Los Santos with improved graphics and enhanced gameplay.
Although it was featuring during the PlayStation Showcase, GTA 5 will be released on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It marks the third generation of consoles that GTA 5 has been released on. The game was originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox Series X in September 2013. It was then brought to PS4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and also PC in April 2015.
Rockstar didn't elaborate too much on the game's delay, only saying that they need some more time for "polishing and fine-tuning." While GTA 5 and GTA Online are both already playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, this specific next-gen version will boast improvements that take advantage of the powerful next-gen hardware, such as "seamless character switching." In the game, players are able to swap between playable protagonists Michael, Trevor, and Franklin on the fly. Presumably, this next-gen version will allow you to do so with little to no wait.
In anticipation of the next-gen launch, PlayStation Plus members can receive GTA$1,000,000 every month for the PlayStation 4 version of GTA Online up until the game launches on PlayStation 5 in March 2022. The free in-game cash can be claimed on the PlayStation Store.
