With the highly-anticipated remake of Resident Evil 2 on the horizon, during an interview with Game Informer, the game's director Kazunori Kadoi recently revealed that a remake of the original Resident Evil remake is entirely on the cards.
The first Resident Evil Game released back in 1996 and was remade only two years ago in 2015, but despite that, whilst discussing its sequel's upcoming remake as well as Capcom's future projects, Kadoi seemed to sincerely be behind the original game getting yet another remake. Here's what the game director had to say:
We’ve got a lot of fans who ask for their favorite games, but we’re not going to commit to anything right now. We’d like to keep our possibilities open for the future and see what makes the most sense when we come to it. We don’t want to feed just nostalgia. We want to bring [out] how people felt about the original games and if we can, reimagine it in a way so that it bridges the generation gap between people who played it 20 years ago and newcomers.
Certainly enough time has passed that it wouldn’t be laughable to remake the remake. I personally think that would be an interesting thing to do.
While hype is high for Kadoi's remake of Resident Evil 2, is it really necessary to remake a game for a second time - only two years seperated? Perhaps entirely in first-person like last year's Resident Evil 7, or maybe for the next generation of consoles.
What do you think? Would you like Resident Evil to be remade again? Are you looking forward to the Resident Evil 2 remake?
The remake of Resident Evil 2 will be releasing for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on January 25th.
