So, there's a reboot of the Resident Evil movie series in the works at Screen Gems. Johannes Roberts, known for 47 Meters Down, will serve as director while Greg Russo serves as writer. Russo is also writing the live-action Mortal Kombat and Saints Row movies, coincidentally enough. As recently declared by a respected box office analyst; video game movies are on the rise.
It's believed that this Resident Evil movie will be much more in line with the video games than the previous ones. The Illuminerdi claims to have learned that Hannah John-Kamen has been offered the role of Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil movie. The actress is best known for starring in Killjoys as well as featuring in Ant-Man and the Wasp as the villainous Ghost.
It's said that this iteration of the fan-favourite video game character is "a small town girl that enjoys hunting with the guys. She is gorgeous yet tough, and she knows how to have a good time." Interesting indeed.
What's more, it's said that the casting will be open to all ethnicities, but will be "focusing on casting an African-American with mixed heritage for the role," should Hannah John-Kamen decline.
The report also makes mention that Kaya Scodelario, best known for The Maze Runner, has been offered the role of Claire Redfield — but negotiations are still ongoing. It's also said that Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and Albert Wesker will feature in the Resident Evil movie but they currently have no actors tied to them.
While the aforementioned five characters will supposedly all feature as leads, it's said that minor antagonist Chief Irons will also be in the movie. Additionally, the site mentioned that they weren't able to confirm reports that Brenton Thwaites was up for the role of Chris Redfield.
