As we draw closer to the end of the year, various sites have begun making their Top 10 lists of best-reviewed movies and video games of the year; some, even, will soon be making their Top 10 of best games of the decade soon.
Review aggregator site Metacritic has done precisely that, by releasing a Top 15 list of the best-reviewed video games of 2019; taking into acount only reviews by critics, and only considering the best score that a title may have gotten on more than one platforms.
Metacritic has also revealed that this Top 15 list of best-reviewed games of the year do not include ports of previously existing games; only those who have released this year. Remakes of previously existing games, however, have been considered.
Before we move onto the list, and in accordance to the stipulations established by Metacritic, the best-reviewed game of 2019 is Capcom's
Resident Evil 2 remake with a very solid Metascore of 92/100, with FromSoftware's
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers in the second and third place sharing a Metascore of 91/100.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, another game developed by Capcom, also makes the Top 5, with a Metascore of 90/100. Even more impressive is that this is actually an expansion for the original Monster Hunter World; an expansion so big that legitimately qualifies as a separate game.
