The history of Spider-Man games is a lengthy one, with dozens of games across nearly every platform ever created, the Web-head is a common presence for any generation of gamers. Spider-Man is one of the most dominant comic-book characters in popular culture, and for good reason.
Following Spidey’s healthy presence in the years biggest films such as Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and a separate spin-off film for Venom, the exposure couldn’t be greater. The video games helped opened doors to reinvent and take chances with the character for a larger audience, and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was able to take that leap of faith thanks to its bold predecessors.
Dan Slott, one of the most prolific Spidey writers in the last decade, cited the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions video game as a source of inspiration for the eventual Spider-Verse comics, which in turn lead to the creation of Sony's critically acclaimed film.
When Beenox, the game studio that developed a number of Spider-Man titles over the years, mapped out the general story; they flew out Slott to take a look and to receive feedback. That, in turn, compelled Slott to call his editor at Marvel and run the idea of a story with multiple Spider-Men.
Now, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is an Oscar-winning film, and we have Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions to thank. It all began with Beenox, and that’s pretty neat.
