Despite a strong evidence, a highly-anticipated Splinter Cell Blacklist sequel wasn't announced during E3 2018. In a post-show interview, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was asked why Splinter Cell didn’t make the show and said": "We love the brand. We really want it to come back but I can’t say much today."
Back in March, Amazon Canada posted a placeholder for Splinter Cell 2018, suggesting that Ubisoft was getting ready to reveal the future of Sam Fisher and his Fourth Echelon. A month later, the publisher officially announced that the legendary spy will join Ghost Recon: Wildlands is a special event titled Special Operation #1. This DLC also brought back the original voice of Sam Fisher, Michael Ironside.
Then, Ironside hinted at the possibility of a new game in the franchise, although he was quite vague on the matter: "Let's see if the storylines allow an organic [way to bring] Sam back." In May, Walmart Canada dropped the real bomb. Splinter Cell was among many games accidentally listed by Walmart, titles like Rage 2, Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, Just Cause 4 and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
Amazon Italy has decided to follow in Walmart Canada's footsteps and yesterday released placeholders for the long-rumored Splinter Cell for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. After Splinter Cell, Amazon Italy also listed Bloodborne 2 for PlayStation 4, and Sunset Overdrive 2 for Xbox One. Amazon also revealed the release date of Dreams, the upcoming PS4-exclusive. Media Molecule's game is set to release on February 22, 2019. Meanwhile, Dark Souls Remastered is all set to release on the Switch on 31st August, according to the site.
We’ll let you know if any of these titles end up being confirmed, but you may be waiting a while - but there's a small chance Ubisoft will finally officially announce Splinter Cell 7 during Gamescom 2018.
