Call of Duty: Warzone's player count continues to grow at an exponential pace. After
reaching six million players in less than 24 hours, the free-to-play standalone multiplayer experience, which includes a battle royale mode, has now surpassed 15 million players. Activision didn't get too specific regarding numbers, but the sheer number of players who have downloaded the game is still promising.
Call of Duty: Warzone launched on March 10 as a free-to-play offering. The game features a standard battle royale mode with up to 150 players as well as another mode called Plunder, which tasks players with collecting as much in-game cash as possible. With its battle royale mode, Infinity Ward introduced a unique respawn mechanic. Upon dying, players will be sent into a prison where they can take part in a 1v1 duel in the Gulag. The winner of the duel is able to redeploy, while the loser must wait for his teammates to revive him at a Buy Station (if they have enough cash).
Infinity Ward will continue to build upon the success of
Warzone. The developer recently confirmed plans to up the player count to 200 per match. They are also exploring expanding the number of players in a squad, having already tested four- and five-player squads. Currently,
Warzone's battle royale supports solo, duo, and three-player squads.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available for free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
