Descent was a 3D first-person shooter series, developed by Parallax Software and published by Interplay Entertainment, that originated in 1995 when the first game released for MS-DOS and macOS. The first two games(
Descent and
Descent II) were even ported to the PlayStation in 1996 and 1997 respectively.
The
Descent series even saw a successful third sequel in
Descent 3 that, much like the previous entries, was received very favourably by gaming magazines and fans of the series. Sadly, that was the last we would hear about the series since a fourth game never got to see the light of day.
In March of 2016, Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog—the creators of the
Descent series—successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign for a
Descent spiritual successor titled
Overload. The game is developed and published by Revival Productions, and was finally released in May of this year on Steam, with a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions scheduled for a later release.
Much like the
Descent games,
Overload is bringing back the 3D first-person shooting action
Descent games are known for, as well as the six degrees of freedom gameplay that made the series so unique. Today,
Overload has finally become available for the PlayStation 4 and players can find it digitally on the PlayStation Store.
Introducing Overload, a new six-degrees-of-freedom shooter with intuitive controls, amazing lighting and graphics. From the creators of Descent, Overload is the best zero-gravity robot-blasting combat ever.
Overload is available for the PlayStation 4 today.
