It's been over three years since developer Quantic Dream first announced Star Wars Eclipse was in early development. Announced as the developer's "most ambitious project to date," there was a ton of excitement surrounding the game that.
Unfortunately, that excitement was met with radio silence. In the time since the game was announced back at The Game Awards 2021, there's been little to no official information revealed about Star Wars Eclipse.
Last we heard, Quantic Dream CEO Guillaume de Fondaumièr assured fans that development on Star Wars Eclipse was progressing "as planned." Rumors suggest the game won't be released until 2027, though.
That's quite a ways out and while we're unsure when Quantic Dream will share anything official with us, some concept art has found its way online. 13 different illustrations were posted online (via MP1st) by an artist who had briefly worked on Star Wars Eclipse, revealing various characters in different outfits and visual pitches.
The images reveal at least three well-known alien races from the Star Wars universe: Zenezians, Rodians, and Gungans. There are also designs for smugglers.
There are also two illustrations with filenames suggesting they are characters of significance: “Travis” and “Jotraaaz Kammzzzek." We don't know exactly why these two images use character names instead of the species, but it could mean they will play a more significant role in the game's story.
Because of potential copyright issues we won't be posting them here, but you can view them here.
Set in the High Republic era, Star Wars Eclipse will take place in an uncharted region of the Outer Ring. The adventure game will mix action gameplay with intricate branching narrative that Quantic Dream-developed titles are best known for. These branching narrative paths will depend on player choice with every decision having an impact on the course of the story.
"Crafted by a diverse team of writers, game creators, and interactive storytelling experts, all with a deep affinity for the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars Eclipse will feature new places to explore through untold stories with unique characters, each with their own path, abilities, and roles to play," the developer said back in 2021.
Given that Star Wars Eclipse was still in early development when it was announced, it's understandable why Quantic Dream wouldn't have much else to say or show off immediately. It's now been three years though and we have to assume we're close to having something more official shown.
While fans continue to wait for more details on Star Wars Eclipse, EA and Bit Reactor recently lifted the curtain on their turn-based tactics game, Star Wars Zero Company. The game was revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan with a cinematic trailer and a 2026 release window.
