Bandai Namco's
Dragon Ball FighterZ will have its first
World Tour Tournament that mimics the
Tenkaichi Budokai tournaments from the TV show, except this time players will be collecting all 7
Dragon Balls in order to win fantastic prizes and become the
Grand Champion.
The
World Tournament will be held from
June 2018 until
January 2019 and will have players competing throughout the year to decide the Grand Champion. The first World Tour to decide the first Champion begins on the
29th of June at the CEO Fighting Game Championships and will end on the
1st of July in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Wourld Tour features seven Saga Event stops which are the CEO Fighting Game Championships(USA), VS Fighting(UK), Ultimate Fighting Arena(France), Thunderstruck(Mexico), Southeast Asia Major(Singapore), plus 2 more yet to be announced.
All matches will be streamed via Twitch, who are also awarding the Tournament with $25,000 USD, rewarding the Grand Champion with $10,000 USD, 2nd place with $5,000 USD, 3rd place gets $3,750 USD, 4th gets $2, 500 USD, 5th(two players) will get $1, 250 USD, and the 6th place(also two players) will get $625 USD.
As mentioned before, players will also be collecting the
7 Dragon Balls. This will take place at the designated Saga Events placed worldwide. The more
Dragon Balls players collect, the higher the seed that they will be granted at the Finals tour. An 8-man match double elimination bracket system will be featured as a
Last Chance Qualifier.
Now, this is where things get even more interesting. If one player manages to collect all
7 Dragon Balls by winning all
7 Saga Events, the format of the Finals will change and the player with all
7 Dragon Balls gets a bye to the Grand Finals, which guarantees a 2nd place at minimum. If this was the case, the
Finals Last Chance Qualifier will become an open bracket event that will determine who can challenge the player who posseses all
7 Dragon Balls in a first-to-ten set for the title of
Grand Champion.
The
Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Tournament sounds exactly like something that would happen in the Dragon Ball universe—in fact, it's already happened in Dragon Ball Super...in a way—which makes it all the more exciting. As of yet, and because the Tour begins in June, the supported platforms for the Tournament are PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, so no news regarding the Nintendo Switch version that launches on the
28th of September. If you're one of the lucky ones in any of the areas for the Saga Events, go and participate. For more information about the Tour
