The first
Mortal Kombat live-action movie adaptation was hit theaters all the way back July of 1995, becoming a massive hit overnight; a film that many consider, even to this day, to be one, if not, the best video game movies ever made.
The timing was right, the actors were perfectly cast, and director Paul W.S. Anderson was able to capture the essence of
Mortal Kombat almost to the T. Needless to say, it was an incredible feat when all of this was accomplished by keeping the movie PG-13; considering that the games were well-known for it's mature content.
Christopher Lambert(Raiden), Robin Shou(Liu Kang), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa(Shang Tsung), Linden Ashby(Johnny Cage), Bridgette Wilson(Sonya Blade) and Talisa Soto(Kitana) are still regarded as some of the most inspired castings in a video game live-action adaptation — which adds even more of that
Mortal Kombat feel to the movie.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actors Robin Shou and Linden Ashby — who played Lui Kang and Johnny Cage, respectively, in the 1995
Mortal Kombat movie — have shared some of their experiences while making the film, as well as some other interesting details about how this cult classic shaped their careers since.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the interview is that Robin Shou and Linden Ashby have kept in touch all of these years and are actually very good friends; most definitely something that fans of both the movie and the acclaimed video game fighting series will be happy to know about.
