Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is an upcoming fighting game featuring characters from the long-running
Power Rangers series. Developed by nWay, Lionsgate Games and published by Hasbro, the game is expected to release this coming April for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.
Having been revealed just a few days ago, one thing that rubbed a few fans the wrong way was the fct that the games assets look pretty similar to
Power Rangers: Legacy Wars — albeit more polished for consoles — which is a mobile game also developed by nWay; making them think that the newly announced title was just a port of the game for mobiles.
In a recent interview with DualShockers, Senior Product Manager at nWay, Jesse Cherry, stated that
Power Rangers: Power of the Grid and
Power Rangers: Legacy Wars are not the same game; bluntly saying that the former isn't a mobile port at all.
Although nWay has used some of the same tech they used in
Power Rangers: Legacy Wars,
Power of the Grid mainly reused some assets that relate to the game's multiplayer mode's matchmaking. Cherry mentions that the developers are fixated on delivering a top quality 3v3 fighting game in the same vein of other popular titles like
Dragon Ball FighterZ and the
Marvel vs. Capcom series.
"
This is from the ground up, full movement, and what you expect from console team based fighters like Marvel vs. Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ. There are all new animations. We had to create new rigs because in the mobile game our characters didn’t have certain points of articulation that we needed for a game on consoles. So this is brand new."
For over 25 years Power Rangers has been one of the most popular franchises in the world. As a perennial Top 10 NPD Action Brand, the globally renowned brand has spawned hit TV shows, movies, toys, comics, live entertainment and games.
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid will be available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam in April of 2019.
