Project Soul and Bandai Namco's sword fighting game series
SoulCalibur have made it a staple to have guest characters show up in their games, as well as these characters being exclusives for the console the game was out for. The guests have been as varied as Link, from
The Legend of Zelda series, being an exclusive for the GameCube version of
SoulCalibur II as opposed to the PlayStation 2's version that featured
Tekken series' Heihachi Mishima, or even Yoda and Darth Vader, from...you know...
Star Wars, showing up in
SoulCalibur IV.
SoulCalibur VI is no exception and now it's time for Geralt of Rivia, from
The Witcher series,
to join the fight. Take a look at this behind the scenes character showcase and learn more about what the developers have to say about the character's abilities and more!
CD Projekt Red's Director and English Adaptations Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz mentions that "
Geralt is a witcher. A member of a cast of professional monster slayers...monster hunters, a master swordsman, a spinner, a roller, an acrobat with superhuman strength, speed and reflexes." He also goes on to say that Geralt is not a scrappy fighter and when it comes to fighting precision is his thing. "
He's like a scalpel in combat."
When designing the combat for Geralt in
SoulCalibur VI, Projekt Red's head of animation says that they had to go back to the drawing board so they could make sure that Geralt in
SoulCalibur VI moved, felt, and played like Geralt from
The Witcher 3. All this was attained by reinventing the way Geralt behaves in certain situations so that his fighting style would be fitting for a fighting game where movement, timing and responsiveness are very different from the combat in
The Witcher 3. To the point they even asked the original motion capture actor for Gerald to supervise motion capture recordings in
SoulCalibur VI.
"
Geralt's romp into the world of SoulCalibur could be considered as an extension of the interdimensional travel he did in The Witcher 3.", says Mr. Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz. "
On one leg, he encountered sandworms on a sand-covered planet...on another, he might well have encountered Mitsurugi and Sophitia."
Also, Community Lead of CD Projekt Red, Marcin Momot, thinks that Geralt joining
SoulCalibur VI "
will help expand both universes in a meaningful way so that gamers who are into The Witcher and the fighting community would both be left satisfied."
As a long time fan of the
SoulCalibur franchise, and not having played a single
The Witcher game, I'm very interested in seeing what they do with the character so I can attest that, whatever it is that the people behind both
The Witcher and
Soul Calibur VI are doing, is working.
SOULCALIBUR VI represents the latest entry in the premier weapons-based, head-to-head fighting series and continues the epic struggle of warriors searching for the legendary Soul Swords. Taking place in the 16th century, revisit the events of the original SOULCALIBUR to uncover hidden truths.
SoulCalibur VI still hasn't been given an official date but is expected to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this 2018.
