It's common knowledge that video game adaptations can be very hit and miss, but one place where they haven't really been tested is on television. However, that may be about to change as Battlefield is being developed for the small screen by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content. The latter have found success with the likes of True Detective and Mr. Robot, so that may bode well for this property.
The first person shooter has had many iterations, with some instalments set in the present and others in the past of even near future. The news was made official by EA today and while it's too soon for a network to be attached, it sounds like things are already moving forward nicely on this one.
"Battlefield has a tremendous built-in, engaged fan base, making it a highly coveted piece of IP primed for long-form adaption," said Michael Sugar, Anonymous Content partner and an executive producer of the Battlefield adaption. "Together with EA and Paramount TV, we’ll develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly 15 years." The question now is what form the show is going to take.
Personally, I'd love to see the comedic Battlefield: Bad Company developed into a series, but given the seriousness of the franchise in recent years, that seems unlikely. What do you guys think?
