Earlier this week, Electronic Arts and DICE announced that they will no longer be supporting Star Wars Battlefront II with post-launch content updates — beyond the latest "Battle of Scariff" update which you can find out more about here. What's more, the developer and publisher also announced that Battlefield V will no longer be receiving any more updates.
Back in October, Electronic Arts reportedly confirmed that a new Battlefield instalment was in the works for release in 2021-2022 — as you can see here. Well, they recently reiterated that confirmation. The publisher told Gamespot that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X title it "targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms."
This suggests that the next Battlefield game will be exclusive to the next-generation of consoles, as well as the PC, and not available for the PlayStation 4 nor Xbox One. Despite that Battlefield 4 was a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Electronic Arts are opting to avoid the console launch this time around.
Rather, they're planning to release it during the next fiscal year (2021, rather than 2020) in order to take advantage of the larger install base. "Bringing out Battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is fairly small, doesn't really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that's part of our driver in moving the title into Fiscal 22."
