Last week, we reported that the cinematic version of
Call of Duty could be directed by
Sicario 2: Soldado's director Stefano Sollima. We still don't know what the actual status of the movie is, but the director revealed his top candidates for the lead roles in the potential adaptation.
Speaking to Metro UK in Milan at the launch of his short film for Campari, Sollima revealed that he would love to work with Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Locke), "I mean, I like almost everything [he’s been in]. I’m waiting for his Venom. Even in Mad Max, he was great." Sollima said. Chris Pine (Wonder Woman, Hell or High Water) also is the director's top choice to star in Call of Duty, "He’s tough, but he’s smart and he can have a sense of humor but he can [also] be in such a dramatic role," the director explained. "I like when you feel that an actor can play with different nuances and tone because this means they’re a good actor."
Activision Blizzard Studios’ presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk will produce the movie along with Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick. Call of Duty's script was penned by Kieran Fitzgerald (The Homesman, Snowden) who will develop with Sollima. The film still doesn't have a distributor.
Stefano Sollima's Sicario 2: Soldado is set to open on June 29, 2018.
