For years, fans have been clamoring for Microsoft and Activision to bring
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to Xbox One. Well, it's finally happening! Microsoft announced today that the fan-favorite game is now playable on Xbox One via the system's backward compatibility feature.
Released back in 2009 for Xbox 360 and PS3,
Modern Warfare 2 received universal critical acclaim and is widely considered one of the best games in the
Call of Duty franchise. Sorry
Fortnite fans, this was
Call of Duty's Golden Age before the days of battle royale -
which Activision is now imitating in Black Ops 4.
The game has been praised for its in-depth story, which includes the infamous "No Russian" airport scene, but it's the multiplayer that fans are probably most excited to see return.
Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer set a new bar for the franchise and is still regarded as one of the best run-and-gun experiences. While the
Call of Duty franchise has evolved a ton since 2009, fans crave nostalgia and it's fantastic that Activision and Microsoft have finally delivered.
As mentioned in the tweet,
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is on sale this week. It's
available digitally for Xbox One for just $14.99 if you're an Xbox LIVE Gold member.
