Activision and Infinity Ward have finally revealed when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will release and they did so in a way that only the blockbuster franchise could pull off. Rather than simply releasing a teaser with the October 28, 2022 release date, Activision put together one of the biggest advertisements of all time -- literally, as a massive cargo ship containing a 90,000 square foot Modern Warfare 2 wrap featuring Simon "Ghost" Riley pulled into a port dock containing another image that aligned with it.
The video also featured footage of a drone flying through the dock, revealing artwork for the additional members of Task Force 141. We've got artwork for Captain John Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley, John “Soap” MacTavish, Kyle 'Gaz' Garrick and Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas, a newcomer to the global squad.
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a little while longer to see actual gameplay, but hopefully not too much longer. The video seemed to point to a date as to when we might get to see gameplay footage for Modern Warfare 2, and it could be as early as next month. As the drone flies through the dock, there's a shipping containing with "J-8-22" on the side. Many believe this to indicate a Juen 8th reveal.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which served as a reboot of the beloved and incredibly popular Modern Warfare sub-series. The original Modern Warfare was released in 2007 and followed by Modern Warfare 2 in 2009. Many consider these games to be among the best in Call of Duty franchise history. 2019's reboot, however, has since become the best-selling Call of Duty title of all time, suggesting this sequel could blow all the other games out of the water in terms of sales.
We'll have a better idea as to what's in store for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 when we finally get a glimpse of gameplay, which is hopefully next month. In the meantime, you can mark your calendars as this year's blockbuster shooter will launch on October 28, 2022.
