With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 set to release this October, Activision busted out gameplay this week, giving fans our first look at the innovations coming in this year's blockbuster shooter. Following the more standard gameplay reveal, Activision took to the Summer Game Fest 2022 with a preview of the campaign mission Operation Dark Water. The mission takes us to an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico that's carrying cargo that could spark a global conflict: missiles poised to strike. Task Force 141 is sent out to disarm this potentially catastrophic weapon.
"In Dark Water, players will be challenged to contend with enemy forces while shifting across a boat and avoiding enemy fire and being crushed by shipping containers... but there’s much more to the mission," developer Infinity Ward teases.
The mission walkthrough gives us a fantastic look at how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will utilize next-gen hardware to take gameplay to the next level. Missions are designed to be more dynamic and lifelike. From the environmental elements to the improved enemy AI, Modern Warfare 2 is shaping up to be the most innovate game in the franchise. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to launch on October 28, 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The game is currently available for pre-order, but there's a bit of bad news -- all versions of the game will cost $69.99, even if you're playing on last-gen consoles.
There are currently only two editions of Modern Warfare 2 available: the Cross-Gen bundle ($69.99), which features both the last-gen and new-gen versions of the game, and the Vault Edition ($99.99), which comes with a bunch of digital bonuses. Both editions grant early access to the upcoming Open Beta.
