The highly anticipated reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer will come in September, Activision announced this weekend. During the conclusion of the Call of Duty League Championship Weekend, Activision announced Call of Duty: Next, a franchise showcase, will be broadcast on September 15.
Fans who tune in will be treated to a look at the imminent future of Call of Duty, including details regarding Modern Warfare 2 and the next Call of Duty: Warzone. We'll also learn more about the mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone, known as Project Aurora. And, of course, we'll be getting a full Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer reveal plus additional information and surprises.
Ahead of the big event, Activision confirmed the dates for the Modern Warfare 2 beta. The beta will run for two weekends from September 16-20 and September 22-26.
The first weekend will be exclusive to PlayStation owners. The PlayStation Early Access period will run from September 16 at 10 a.m. PT to September 20 and only be accessible by those who preordered the game on PS4 or PS5 or received a beta code. On September 18 at 10 a.m. PT, the beta will open up to all PlayStation users regardless of pre-order status.
The second weekend will open the beta up to all platforms — PlayStation, Xbox and PC — and will allow for crossplay so that you can play alongside friends regardless of their console. This second weekend will run from September 22 at 10 a.m. PT to September 26.
The entire second-weekend beta will be open for all PlayStation owners regardless of preorder status. Those who pre-ordered the game for Xbox and PC will also be able to jump into the early access period starting on September 22 at 10 a.m. PT. For those who haven't pre-ordered the game, you'll have to wait for the Xbox and PC open beta which begins on September 24 at 10 a.m. PT.
The beta will give fans a glimpse into the robust multiplayer experience of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We'll get the Core 6v6 experience plus a taste of other game Modes, Progression experiences, and more.
Activision gave us a glimpse of one of the new maps in Modern Warfare 2: Marina Bay Grand Prix. In this map, which will be playable in the beta, players will battle within the main field of an urban race circuit.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches worldwide on October 28, 2022.
