Epic Games has released a new teaser for Fortnite's upcoming Chapter 5 Season 3 update. The storm is approaching and you better buckle up because it looks like we're in for a wild ride.
Epic hasn't confirmed much about the upcoming season, although it's rumored that it will be heavily inspired by Mad Max and other such post-apocalyptic franchises (including Fallout!). The teaser seemingly confirms this as we see a number of vehicles emerging from some sort of mech container from within the storm. While it's hard to make out every single vehicle shown, it seems like one of the new ones will be some sort of monster truck.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 is reportedly titled "Wrecked," which alludes to the season's emphasis on vehicles. Vehicles aren't necessarily a new thing to Fortnite, but it seems like this season will put even more focus on them, perhaps even introducing more mechanics.
There's definitely a strong Mad Max vibe from the teaser, but as we we learned earlier this week, this won't be the season's only source of inspiration. On Friday, Epic teased an upcoming collaboration with Fallout, the post-apocalyptic video game franchise from Bethesda Game Studios.
The developer posted a single image depicting the iconic Power Armor helmet from Fallout. The armor is associated with The Brotherhood of Steel, a post-War technology-focused, quasi-religious paramilitary order. The tweet featured a pair of emojis — a winking face and a thumbs up — which was undoubtedly a reference to Vault Boy, the corporate mascot of the Vault-Tec Corporation in Fallout.
Epic also offered an update via the in-game news feed confirming that Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked will arrive “courtesy of the Brotherhood of Steel” on May 24.
With less than a week to go until the new season, we should begin to get more teasers from Epic Games and possibly a few leaks as well. Epic typically conducts some sort of in-game event in the lead-up to a new season's arrival so I wouldn't be surprised to see some weird stuff start to happen in the game. We're already noticing the giant cloud of dust approaching the island in the game, but that seems to just be the tip of the iceberg.
The new season will likely kick off with an official in-game event, followed by some downtime, and then the introduction of the new season, Battle Pass, and more. As always, stay tuned as we learn more about the highly anticipated next season of Fortnite!
