Fortnite's v4.2 Content Update arrived today, bringing with it the long-awaited Jetpacks for the game's battle royale mode. Jetpacks are actually a part of the game's new Backpacks item type. These fill an inventory slot, like a weapon or consumable would, and have "a variety of uses," according to Epic. Unlike Back Bling, backpacks are strictly a gameplay item (not a cosmetic) and cannot be purchased with V-Bucks.
The jetpack is the first type of Backpack item, but Epic Games has plans to introduce more with different functions. As the patch notes confirm, Backpacks are found in treasure chests and only one can be carried at a time; if you pick up a different Backpack, it will automatically swap with the one currently equipped. Additionally, when a Backpack is fully consumed, it is automatically destroyed. While equipped, your Back Bling cosmetics will be hidden.
Today's update also brings back the popular Solid Gold Limited Time game mode. In this mode, all weapon drops are legendary, creating a truly even playing field. The patch notes below detail the changes in version 2 of this mode.
For Save the World,
Fortnite's PvE mode, the update adds Achaeolo Jess, coming soon to the event store.
