This week, Epic Games announced that
Fortnite Battle Royale is
coming to mobile devices (iOS and Android) with cross-platform play supported on PC and PlayStation 4. Oddly enough, there was no mention of Xbox, leading many to speculate the new mobile version wouldn't be cross-compatible with Microsoft's console. Thankfully, that's not the case.
Epic
announced that
Fortnite will, in fact, feature cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase between Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and, in a few months, Android. It doesn't appear as though Xbox and PlayStation will be cross-play, however.
"Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles," Epic said.
"We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms."
The developer continued,
"With each new platform we support and every update we ship, we strive to bring Fortnite to more people, and make it easier to play together with friends. And, as always, cross-play is opt in."
As previously announced, Monday will start sign-ups for the
Fornite Invite Event on iOS.
