Respawn Entertainment released their first game back in 2014 — Titanfall. Since then, they've become one of the most esteemed developers in the industry. They followed up their first game with a sequel, Titanfall 2, and eventually released Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The latter two games are frankly two of the most popular in the world at the moment.

Respawn Entertainment continues to support Apex Legends with free post-launch content updates. The same can be said for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order but they're also working on an outright sequel to that one — Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed as much just last week.

But will they be returning to their roots anytime soon with perhaps another Titanfall game? Well, they have confirmed that they were working on Titanfall 3 at one point in time but that simply evolved into Apex Legends. Since then, we've heard nothing but confirmation that another Titanfall game isn't in the works. Guess what? This instance is no different.

Respawn Entertainment head Vince Zampella recently told IGN that "there's nothing currently in development" as far as Titanfall goes. “But it’s always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We’ll see if I can make that happen.”

If Zampella himself, the founder and head of Respawn Entertainment, wants Titanfall to return then surely it's inevitable — right? Fingers crossed. Zampella is also now in charge of DICE LA. He also provided an update on that studio and what they're working on. First off, Zampella alluded to a name-change for the developer.

“The intention is for them to have their own identity. We’ll figure that out as we go. The COVID situation has thrown a kink in everything, so we’re still figuring [it] out.” He then explained that their first title will almost certainly be a first-person shooter since that's frankly what they're good at — at that, it will likely run on the Frostbite engine.

That team is a shooter team. Chances are it’s going to be something along those lines. There’s a lot of really good shooter talent there. But I don’t want to lock it in and say that’s definitely exactly what they’re doing, because we’re going to look at everything and pick something that feels amazing. The same tenets that apply to Respawn of doing something new and exciting and kind of breaking the genre a little bit is what we’re going to apply to DICE LA. We’re going to look at trying to do something cool. We want to do something that’s not competitive with other EA games so that we’re kind of filling in the right gaps in the portfolio. We have some really good ideas, but it’ll be a little bit [before they make any announcements].
