For those of you interested in
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode, here's your chance to get in on the action. The free week-long trial for Blackout has gone live, giving everyone a chance to experience the intense battle royale gameplay with a
Call of Duty spin on it.
“The community response to Blackout has been incredible, and we love watching how players have really made the mode their own, evolving gameplay to a new level,” said Dan Bunting, Treyarch's Co-Studio Head. “We can’t wait to welcome new players to experience the unique Black Ops style of battle royale in Blackout.”
Blackout was implemented into
Black Ops 4 as a way to incorporate battle royale into the long-standing first-person shooter franchise. Though it's inspired by the likes of
Fortnite and
PUBG, Blackout feels like more than just an imitation of other popular battle royale games. The new mode incorporates characters, locations, weapons, and gear from across the
Black Ops series, making it a natural addition to the game's suite of multiplayer modes.
“It’s amazing to see the amount of creativity and fun that our players have from the moment they start playing,” added Treyarch Co-Studio Head Mark Gordon.
“Particularly as game developers, we’ve always been fascinated watching clips and streams of how fans play, and we can’t wait to see even more people jump into the action.”
The Blackout Free Trial is the full battle royale experience with no limitations. All progress and in-game items you earn throughout the week-long trial will be saved and immediately accessible once you upgrade to the full version of
Black Ops 4.
Arriving alongside today's trial is the new limited time game mode, "
Down But Not Out." Available on PS4 (other platforms to follow), this mode is available for quads, and allows a player's eliminated team members to jump back into the action and re-join them with each new circle collapse except for the final circle.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout Free Trial is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC from today through January 24.
