Gamestop will soon be a place where people can trade in and purchase old gaming systems, games and accessories. This will be taking place in New York City and Birmingham, Alabama. If successful, Gamestop will expand from the 250 pilot stores and expand to other states.
Gamestop is trying what other stores like Pawn Shops, eBay and Amazon have been doing for awhile now. After the success of accepting Playstation 2s for trade in Gamestop decided it was time to accept others as well. Will you get fair market value for trading in the games. Most likely not. Some retro games are better off being sold on places like Amazon and Ebay.
Final Fantasy III for Super Nintendo is being sold from anywhere from 40 to 60 dollars depending on what site you look at. However, if unloading the games that are collecting dust is the top priority by all means trade them to Gamestop and allow other people to enjoy the classics. The bottom line is look to see what the market is saying the game is worth not what Gamestop says its worth.
