It seems that Minecraft players just can't catch a break these days, at least those who are anticipating the release of Minecraft Dungeons. Just a few weeks ago, for example, Mojang revealed that the game was being delayed on account of the Coronavirus outbreak, and now it seems that more disappointing news are coming our way.
As spotted by the people over at My Nintendo News, Mojang's official FAQ website for Minecraft Dungeons states that the upcoming title will, indeed, allow online and local play for up to four players. The issue here is that there will be no online matchmaking, as the developers have designed the game to be played only with friends, not random people online.
"Minecraft Dungeons is designed to be played together with your friends – either on a comfy couch or in a comfy online session."
Mojang specifies that players can still play with their friends online, but this will only be available via private online sessions. The good news is, however, that the game will support cross-platform multiplayer. The caveat here is that at launch online multiplayer will only be available on the same platform.
"At launch you´ll be able to play online multiplayer with players on the same platform. Our goal is to let everyone play together regardless of platform, and we’re looking forward to enabling cross-platform play in a future free game update," reads Mojang's FAQ.
Are you disappointed to find out that Minecraft Dungeons will not feature online matchmaking? Does this make you reconsider purchasing the game at all? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts on Mojang's decision in the comments section below.
