Following the release of Paramount's latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, publisher Outright Games has announced a new sequel game.

Not much is known about the game as it was just announced today, but it will be set months after the events of the movie. Players will take on the role of the Turtles and interact with some of the franchise's most memorable characters while fighting to save New York City from a new mutant threat.

The upcoming game will feature the same painterly art style as the movie and offer a similarly humorous narrative. Gameplay will heavily focus on Turtle teamwork, suggesting it could feature multiplayer as well.

Outright Games focuses heavily on licensed games based on family-friendly properties. Some popular franchises that Outright Games has worked with include Cocomelon, PAW Patrol, Star Trek Prodigy, PJ Masks and Transformers.

"Nickelodeon is one of our longest standing licensing collaborators and we're overjoyed to have the opportunity to bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to life in a brand new and original video game," said Outright Games' COO Stephanie Malham. "This is one of the most enduring and beloved franchises in the world and we're beyond excited to use our expertise to expand the Turtles' global reach even further through the world of video games."

Although there have been multiple TMNT-inspired games in the past, including most recently the critically acclaimed TMNT: Shredder's Revenge from Dotemu, this will be the first video game based on the Mutant Mayhem film.

"It's exciting to launch our first console game set in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem universe, especially as the franchise only continues to grow," said Doug Rosen, SVP, Games and Emerging Media, Paramount. "The vibrancy of this new film's animation lends itself perfectly to video games, and we can't wait for everyone to play it."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was not only unique in its visual style but also in how it approached the TMNT franchise. Co-written by Jeff Rowe, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Brendan O'Brien, the movie sought to emphasize the teenage aspect of the Turtles, exploring themes of acceptance and desires to fit in.

The movie was well-received by critics and fans alike with a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% Audience Score. Critics praise the unique visual style and a "story that captures the essence of the franchise's appeal." The film sits at $153 million worldwide, an impressive number considering its $70 million budget. A sequel and two a two-season 2D animated series have already been greenlit, but it sounds like this game will serve as the first sequel to release.
