Showrunner and writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich shared some exciting news about The Witcher Netflix series. The writer tweeted on Saturday that the script for the pilot episode has finally been finished. Hissrich has said that rewrites will be taking place at some stage, this is commonplace but this is an important milestone for a show that's this early in production and brings the series a step closer to production.

The Netflix series is based on a series of novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski which follows Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter. The series gained a cult following in Eastern Europe and Russia, however, it was The Witcher trilogy from CD Projekt Red which brought the series to titanic new heights, The Witcher 3 is widely considered to be one of the best games of all time. Geralt's character will take influence from the game's portrayal but the series will largely focus on adapting Sapkowski's original series of books.

Fans will be happy to hear that Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant for the series along with Tomas Baginski who is expected to direct at least one episode each season. Baginski is well known for directing the intro videos for each of The Witcher games.

Hissrich is more than qualified to act as showrunner for the series having worked on other adaptations of series such as Daredevil and Luke Cage, both of which were exclusive to Netflix. It's also been made clear that Hissrich has a lot of love for the source material and promised that the series will not be "watered down".

Netflix has offered some new information about the series claiming that it will focus on an "unconventional family" of characters. The series will also feature original characters not seen in the games or books and will strive to be "constantly surprising".
