Larian Studios has released Patch 8, the final major content update for Baldur’s Gate 3, now live across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mac. This massive update serves as both a parting gift and a powerful toolkit for the community, introducing long-requested features, new gameplay options, and robust support for modding. Read up on all the details and how you can get the most out of this update down below.
Cross-Play Arrives Across All Platforms
The highlight of Patch 8 is the long-anticipated cross-play functionality, uniting players across all platforms for the first time. Whether on PC, console, or Mac, adventurers can now party up with friends seamlessly, opening up multiplayer possibilities like never before.
Capture the Forgotten Realms with Photo Mode
Also debuting in this update is an all-new Photo Mode, giving players the ability to pause the action during dialogue, combat, or exploration and snap pictures of their journey. Photo Mode includes a variety of filters, post-processing effects, and even playful stickers to enhance each shot. Whether you're chronicling your latest boss battle or a touching moment between companions, the game now lets you preserve and personalize the moment.
Twelve New Subclasses Expand Player Builds
Each of the 12 playable classes in Baldur’s Gate 3 now has a brand-new subclass, adding unique abilities, visuals, animations, and gameplay mechanics. This not only expands the build variety but breathes fresh life into veteran characters. For example, the Paladin’s new subclass, Oath of the Crown, includes new voiced dialogue for the Oathbreaker Knight, adding narrative depth alongside mechanical flavor.

Modding Toolkit Ushers in a New Era of Community Content
As Larian shifts its focus toward future projects, it’s handing the creative reins to players through an official Modding Toolkit, released today with the patch. The toolkit includes partial level editing, character and item manipulation, trigger creation, and other quality-of-life features aimed at supporting complex mods.
A full documentation suite is now available via the official BG3 Toolkit site, guiding modders on how to get started and take their ideas from concept to playable content.
