Baldur’s Gate 3 fans have something big to look forward to next week, as Larian Studios has confirmed that Patch 8 will officially launch on Tuesday, April 15th. Described as the final major update for the critically acclaimed RPG, this patch is packed with new content, gameplay systems, and features that further elevate one of the most celebrated fantasy titles of the decade.
Checkout the official video by Larian announcing a launch stream to help celebrate the final major update for the game:
At the heart of Patch 8 are 12 brand-new subclasses, one for each core class. These subclasses range from thematic favorites like the Drunken Master Monk and the Shadow Magic Sorcerer, to standout picks like the Path of Giants Barbarian, who can literally toss enemies and allies alike thanks to enhanced size and strength. Each subclass introduces a unique playstyle, offering players more depth and replayability than ever before.
Other new additions include a highly anticipated Photo Mode, complete with advanced camera controls and a scene-setting feature that allows players to pose characters for the perfect screenshot. It’s an ideal tool for storytellers and modders looking to capture dramatic moments or showcase custom campaigns.
Cross-play is also finally here. With Patch 8, players can enjoy multiplayer adventures across PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox, opening the door for full cross-platform cooperation (and chaos) in Faerûn. Xbox Series S players are also getting a long-awaited feature, split-screen co-op, finally bringing parity with the Series X.
This patch isn’t just about flair, though. It also introduces significant gameplay updates and polish across the board, making it the most substantial update since launch. While it’s unclear if the patch will go live during the upcoming launch livestream, it is expected to drop at some point on April 15th.
Patch 8 will be the final content drop for Baldur’s Gate 3, as Larian Studios shifts its attention to a brand-new IP. The team has confirmed it will no longer be working within the Dungeons & Dragons universe, signaling the end of an era.
With its groundbreaking scope and passionate community support, Patch 8 feels less like a goodbye and more like a curtain call one final encore to a game that redefined modern RPGs. Will you be trying out the new classes and photo mode?
