These days, the lines between video games and television/movies blur often. We've seen countless video games adapted into highly successful television shows and we've seen movies inspire fantastic games.
In just a few weeks, Star Wars fans will be introduced to a brand new character when Ubisoft releases Star Wars Outlaws. The upcoming open-world action-adventure puts players into the boots of Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life.
As an open-world game, the trailers and gameplay previews shared so far have only scratched the surface of what Star Wars Outlaws will offer. And from what we've seen, Kay Vess may be the next certified badass in the galaxy far, far away.
As Disney and Lucasfilm continue to expand their Star Wars portfolio with new shows and movies, Star Wars Outlaws actor Humberly Gonzalez has expressed interest in bringing her character to live-action. Speaking to VGC in a new interview, Gonzalez, who provided the voice and motion capture performance for Vess in Star Wars Outlaws, seemed all in on the prospect of a live-action television series or movie starring the character.
“Absolutely,” she told VGC. “Seeing what an actual human connection to the world could look like, I know I have the skills to bring that to real life.”
Star Wars Outlaws is set in between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi — a period that Lucasfilm hasn't really revisited. The latest Skywalker movie trilogy was set 30 years after Return of the Jedi, while shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka are set after the events of Return of the Jedi. That's not to say they couldn't make it work though.
We obviously don't know the ending of Star Wars Outlaws, but I'm willing to wager that Vess survives the criminal underworld. So it wouldn't be impossible for Lucasfilm to find a way to bring her into one of the newer series. Or perhaps they do a straight-up original story starring the character. Either way, it seems that Gonzalez is down for anything.
Talking about her role as the main character in a Star Wars project, Gonzalez called it a "beautiful responsibility."
“There’s definitely this sense of beautiful responsibility, but I also feel like if I were going to be in any franchise, I feel honored and ready to be part of this one," she said. "Being an immigrant and Latina and queer and learning English at a later age, living in Canada, all of the opportunities that brought me to that point to then getting to show my work and be chosen for something like this, it felt very mutual.”
Star Wars Outlaws is set to be released on August 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Anyone who purchases the Gold or Ultimate Editions of the game will get three days of early access, an assortment of digital goodies, and Season Pass which includes a "Day 1 exclusive mission with Jabba" called Jabba's Gambit.
