Two weeks ago, Ubisoft officially announced that some major “
aesthetic changes” would be coming to the global version of
Rainbow Six: Siege that would remove many references to death, sex and gambling in the game, as the studio is preparing the critically acclaimed title's expansion into Asian territory in partnership with Ubisoft shareholder and Chinese games behemoth Tencent.
Ubisoft has revealed they will be reversing the aesthetic changes it had planned for
Rainbow Six Siege after "
our community and players raised concerns," including flooding
Siege's Steam page with negative reviews and expressing disapproval on Reddit. Ubisoft will begin reverting these changes alongside the launch of the next DLC, as a date for
Operation Wind Bastion has yet to be announced.
"
We have been following the conversation with our community closely over the past couple of weeks, alongside regular discussions with our internal Ubisoft team, and we want to ensure that the experience for all our players, especially those that have been with us from the beginning, remains as true to the original artistic intent as possible," Ubisoft wrote on the official
Siege website.
According to the French publisher, their best intention is to keep the removal's impact to a minimum, though such changes may lead to the next season's delay. While current players in Asian territories can continue enjoying the same game as the other players across the universe, it's still unclear when (or maybe even - if) the promised
Rainbow Six: Siege's China-focused version will be released.
The Siege is a brand-new style of gameplay embracing the reality of counter-terrorist operatives across the world: intense and asymmetrical close-quarters combat between attackers and defenders. As a defender, you will have the means to transform your environment into strongholds to prevent the attackers from breaching. As an attacker, you will have many planning options to face this challenge and defuse these situations.
