Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been breaking all kinds of records since the game launched, as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title, on the 20th of March. So far, the recently released title is the fastest-selling single Nintendo Switch game in the United Kingdom and the biggest Nintendo Switch launch ever in Japan.
The game was also estimated to have sold a staggering 5 million copies in March alone, which means that the game was able to sell that many units in a mere 10 days after it became available worldwide. A study by Nielsen's SuperData even mentioned that Animal Crossing: New Horizons had the best launch in video game history.
As if that wasn't enough, Nintendo has just revealed — via the company's financial results for the fiscal year ended on the 31st of March — that Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold a very impressive 11,77 million copies. This has crowned the recently released title as the Nintendo Switch's best start ever for a Nintendo Swith title.
To further illustrate, combined sales of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have sold an impressive 17.37 as of the 31st of March; that's 4 months, since the game was released mid-November of last year. If we go by that, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold more than half that amount of copies in only 11 days. That's quite an impressive feat.
Some have attributed the COVID-19 lockdown to the raise in sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but that actually remains to be seen. Whatever the case, it is definitely the game most Nintendo Switch owners are choosing right now.
