Nintendo has found great success in the handheld arena, but when it comes to console gaming, they're a fair way behind both PlayStation and Xbox. However, could a deal between the latter and Nintendo bring some of their most iconic characters to your living room? In a new interview, Xbox executive Phil Spencer admitted that he would "love to see Mario on Xbox" if a deal could somehow be made.
"Nintendo has the strongest first-party of anybody," Spencer said when asked about future collaborations between the companies. "They're just fantastic and the memories that they have instilled in so many of us, who've played their games and had those delightful experiences, having those on Xbox would be great. Continuing to work with them on that and building a stronger relationship... I mean if that paid dividends down the road that lead to something else, that would be fantastic. I know I get questions all the time on would I ever like to see Banjo in Super Smash Bros. And I'm like, 'Yes, I would do that in a second.' If we ever had a chance to work with them in the future, I would absolutely do it." Crossovers like that have money written all over them!
The first partnership between the two saw Minecraft - an extremely successful first party franchise - released on a competing console in the form of the Wii U, so something like that has surely opened the day to more partnerships between Nintendo and Microsoft. Spencer seems excited to continue to build on this new relationship, and if things work out, Sony may have some serious cause for concern!
