We may have some rather shocking news today, as Reggie Fils-Aimé has announced his retirement as President of Nintendo in North America; after 15 years at the company, and almost 13 as its president.

The news come from a press release by Nintendo, where Shuntaro Furukawa — President of Nintendo Co., Ltd — thanks Reggie for everything he has done for the company in all of the time he's been part of it.

"I really appreciate everything Reggie has done for Nintendo. Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape with strong momentum."

Furukawa also reveals that the newly appointed Nitnendo of America Chief Operating Officer is Head of Sales & Marketing Doug Bowser, who will become President when FIls-Aimé steps down on the 15th of April; in what Furukawa ensures will be a seamless transition.

"While we will miss him and we wish him the very best in his retirement, we are also pleased to have such an able successor ready to step into that role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a seamless transition and continued momentum for Nintendo."

Fils-Aimé also expressed his gratitude to Nintendo, as well as thanking all of the talented people he's worked with over the past 15 years; reassuring us that he is in good health and good humour.

"Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends."

It is definitely sad news to see such a passionate person like Reggie Fils-Aimé resign, and players all over the world will miss seeing him announcing new games and just being there, as a presence, as part of the company. His body is ready to level up and we all wish him the best of lucks.
