Nintendo Of America COO Reminds Us That The NES And SNES Classic Won't Be Around After The Holidays

Nintendo of America Chief Operating Officer, Reggie Fils-Aimé, reminds consumers that once the Holidays are over, there won't be any NES and SNES Classic as Nintendo will not be restocking them.

The NES Classic is, much like the name suggests, a new version of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System; which included a bunch of classic pre-loaded games for players to enjoy and be transported back to their childhood.

When this classic console was first announced, people went head over heels for the NES Classic, since the console is quite literally a miniature version of the original. Once the console was released back in November of 2016, it sold out almost immediately; with Nintendo not restocking it as it was a one-time-only kind of deal.

A year later, Nintendo introduced us to the SNES Classic, which did the same thing for the original Super Nintendo that the NES Classic did for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Supplies for this system, however, were not scarce like the NES Classic, as Nintendo had already realised the potential these mini consoles had.

In June of this year, Nintendo finally decided to listen to fans and re-released the NES Classic once again, giving players the chance to purchase both the NES and SNES Classic consoles(since the SNES Classic was never discontinued since it's launch in 2017).

Nintendo Chief Operating Officer Reggie Fils-Aimé, however, has recently stated that people who want to purchase any of these consoles better hurry up since the company will not be restocking neither of them after they sell out these Holidays.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fils-Aimé was asked if Nintendo was expecting to release more games for the NES and SNES Classic consoles, and whether they were planning on releasing yet another Classic console like say, a Nintendo 64 or GameCube Classic.

Fils-Aimé says that Nintendo currently has no plans to release any more games for the NES and SNES Classic since these consoles do not have the ability to download games that aren't the ones already included.

"There’s no ability for add-on content with our classic consoles, so when you purchase the console it’s coming with that set roster of content. We worked very hard, both for the NES Classic and the SNES Classic, to really have the best games that defined that generation", explained Fils-Aimé while also reminding us that the NES Classic and SNES Classic will not be restocked once the Holidays are over.

"We’ve said that the current systems are the extent of our classic program. We’ve also been clear that, at least from an Americas perspective, these products are going to be available through the holiday season and once they sell out, they’re gone. And that’s it".

There is one silverlining, however, and that is that Nintendo will keep offering players classic content via the new Nintendo Switch Online Service via the Nintendo Entertainment System feature.

"The way that consumers will be able to continue participating with our classic content is going to be through Nintendo Switch Online, and we just released three new games (Ninja Gaiden, Wario's Woods and Adventures of Lolo) from the NES generation onto that platform. We look at that as the main way that consumers will be able to experience that legacy content".

So, there you have it from Fils-Aimé himself, if you still haven't bought either the NES Classic or SNES Classic editions, better hurry up since this is your last chance to get these sought after items.
