With the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo has once again seem to be catering to the handheld demographic. Sure, the original Nintendo Switch already does that and then some, but it is very likely that most Nintendo Switch Lite owners just wanted a portable console that allows them to play heavy hitters like
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the go and this isn't their primary console.
During Nintendo's latest Financial Results Briefing, President Shuntaro Furukawa was asked whether the commpany was planning on developing remakes of previous handheld console titles on the Nintendo Switch in the same vein of the recently released
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
According to Furukawa, the possibility of bringing back previously develop titles exists, but they are more keen on making remakes rather than re-releasing them on the Nintendo Switch.
"
With the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, there is a possibility to bring back titles that have previously been developed for handheld consoles," explains Furukawa.
"
However, within Nintendo, rather than re-releasing past handheld games because of the Nintendo Switch Lite’s release, we are discussing more what sorts of new games we can create for the entire Nintendo Switch family. Within that, we are also considering past titles, but regarding what sorts of discussions are being held in detail, there is nothing I can say at present."
Furukawa does. mention, however, that their criteria — when it comes to choosing these games to be remade — is that the game hs to have a nostalgic appeal but also offer something that feels new; pointing out that
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a perfect example of this.
