In a recent interview with Japanese media outlet Kyoto Shimbun, president of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned that the company has been doing great when it comes to hardware and software sales during these holidays.
While Furukawa may be talking about sales worldwide, this also agrees with the
Nintendo Switch being the fastest-selling console of this current generation of consoles in the US, which definitely comes as a surprise due to the fact that the Switch first had to shake off the failure that was its predecessor: the Nintendo Wii U.
According to Furukawa, Nintendo Switch managed to sell around 42 million in software from April through September; getting some help from heavy hitter titles like
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee! and
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate—
both of which breaking a bunch of selling records on their own.
One of the goals that Nintendo set for themselves at the beginning of the year, however, may be a bit further than they originally intended as Furukawa mentions that reaching that 20 million console sales for the Nintendo Switch is not an easy goal to meet; being difficult to predict until the fiscal year is over. Furukawa does think that the portability and playstyle of the console will likely keep attracting consumers, so there is still hope; especially with Christmas being just around the corner.
