Nintendo has surely had an interesting couple of years, with the abysmal failure that was the Wii U and the overnight success that the Nintendo Switch had upon releasing in March of 2017. It looks like the good news for Nintendo just won't seem to stop, as new information reveals that the Switch is now the fastest-selling console of this generation in the United States.
According to a report by The NPD Group, which is a website that tracks sales for video games in the US, the Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling video game console of this generation with 8.7 million units sold through 21 months since its launch in March of 2017.
The number of Nintendo Switch systems that Nintendo has sold has completely outpaced all of the other current-gen video game consoles; considering sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the same point in their life cycles; as a very impressive turn of events for Nintendo, coming out of the failure that was the Wii U.
Not only is the Nintendo Switch the fastest-selling video game console of this generation, but it is also the overall top-selling software publisher in the United States so far in 2018; most likely attributed to the release of heavy hitter titles like
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has just become the
fastest-selling home console title from Nintendo in all of Europe.
Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.
