Rumours had been doing the rounds earlier in September, claiming that Blizzard's acclaimed
Overwatch would be coming to the Nintendo Switch at some point this year. Blizzard confirmed the rumours by
officially announcing that Overwatch: Legendary Edition was launching for the Switch on the
15th of October.
A few weeks after the official announcement, fans started to root for
Overwatch characters to show up in Nintendo's
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as guest fighters, and
Blizzard Producers Wes Yanagi and Andrew Boyd toyed a little bit with the idea, as well.
Today, it is the game's director who has decided to reveal who the character he would pick to join Nintendo's crossover fighting game would be — although he does say that every
Overwatch character is his favourite.
"
To the Smash Brothers team, whatever character you want, we love them all. They’re all our babies, you can have any single one of them. We have 31 to choose from," revealed Jeff Kaplan —
Overwatch Lead Director — in a recent interview with IGN.
Kaplan didn't shy away from picking a runner up to represent
Overwatch — in a potential crossover with Nintendo's critically acclaimed
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — revealing that Tracer would be his first choice.
"
Tracer's our girl, Tracer's our mascot. She'd be my first choice. There's a lot of great runners up. I think a lot of people can immediately see Doomfist gameplay applying to Smash, but if it were up to me, I'd like to see Tracer."
An
Overwatch crossover with the
Super Smash Bros. series is not impossible, especially now that
Overwatch: Legendary Edition is only a few weeks away from releasing on the Nintendo Switch; it may not happen in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it can definitely happen in future installments.
