During today's long-overdue Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed — as the very last announcement of the presentation — that The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch.

The original version of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was released for the Game Boy in 1993 and, much like every title in the The Legend of Zelda series, it was received with favourable reviews from fans. The game also got an enhanced version for the Game Boy Colour in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, which included the exclusive Colour Dungeon that gave players an extra item of their choice.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch is a complete re-imagining of the original game, with a brand-new art style and the classic top-down view classic Zelda titles are known for. The announcement trailer for the game does a great job capturing the essence of the original game to a T, taking us back to Koholint Island, Mabe Village, and even Marin — the girl of Link's dreams — singing the iconic Ballad of the Wind Fish.

Take a look:

Originally released for the Game Boy™ system more than 25 years ago, one of the most beloved games in the Legend of Zelda series returns. In this modern re-imagining, players once again return to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be available for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
