Pokemon TCG Pocket is getting dual-type cards in October. The first one is Mega Mewtwo X ex, a Psychic and Fighting card shown this weekend at PokemonXP and again in an official trailer.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has treated every Pokemon as a single type since launch. The new card art splits the color down the middle. Mega Mewtwo X ex is listed at 180 HP with Dual Impact for 100-plus damage, with 40 extra if a Stadium is in play. Weakness is Darkness. Retreat cost is two. The company said more dual-type cards will follow after this one.
ICYMI: Awesome dual-type cards were announced during the Pokémon TCG Pocket panel at PokemonXP!
Get ready for dual-type cards, starting with Mega Mewtwo X ex—a dual Psychic- and Fighting-type—and more Pokemon rolling out starting October 2026!
October also brings the first partner Pokemon as ex cards. The trailer showed Piplup ex and Fuecoco ex, with more starter ex cards coming later. Those land with what Pokemon is calling a new series of TCG Pocket expansions. No full set list and no exact calendar day inside October have been posted yet.
Team Rocket’s Ambition is the set in shops this week. Giovanni and Persian covers and backdrops hit August 31. Dual types are the highlight of the update, with the spotlight not being on the Rocket cards.
I have wanted dual types in Pocket since the paper game made them normal. Mewtwo is the obvious poster child. People already know the Mega X punching form, so putting Psychic and Fighting on one card is the cleanest way to teach the mechanic. The part I am waiting on is the rule text they have not published. Does this card count as both types for every Trainer that names one of them, or only for weakness on the attack? Until we know the answer, treat the trailer as art and not a finished deck guide.
If you play Pocket, October is when the binder changes. Mega Mewtwo X ex is the card that will get screenshotted. Piplup and Fuecoco are the ones that tell you the new series is going to keep printing starters as ex. Save the pack openings for a day that actually has a number on it.
Which one are you pulling for first, Mega Mewtwo X ex or the starter ex cards? What were your thoughts on the teaser? Let us know in the comments.
