Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield may have not please long-time fans of the Pokémon series, but the games have sold unsurprisingly well in spite of fan backlash. The games have sold so well, in fact, that they have already managed to become the best-selling Nintendo title of the year.
According to information collected by SuperData Research, combined sales of
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield have managed to surpass sales for
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and
Luigi's Mansion 3; with over 2.72 million units sold within its first month since release.
Now, SuperData Research doesn't reveal where these 2.72 million in sales come from, but we already knew that
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield have
managed to sell an impressive 6 million units worldwide, and
over 1 million copies in Japan alone.
Again, it is worth reminding that these are combined sales because
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield are considered one game; a game that has even been bundled with a special edition Nintendo Switch Lite, and in the form of the
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Double Pack Bundle.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
