A new bit of information has made its way online, and it seems to suggest that Nintendo will finally be releasing the 64GB game card for the Nintendo Switch; that is, if the rumours doing the rounds are to be believed — of course.
First things first, this is actully a bit more of speculation than it is a rumour, since the information is actually legitimate and it comes from Taipei Times, which has revealed that Macronix — a company that makes flash memory cards — will release the 3D NAND at some point in the second half of next year.
Now, why is this relevant? It has been confirmed that Nintendo is actually their first customer, and chances are that this new 3D NAND could end up being the 64GB game card that Nintendo had announced in 2017 but decided to push back indefinitely.
The reason why it is believed that this new 3D NAND could be the Nintendo Switch's 64GB game card is because Nintendo already produces their in-house memory cards, and they have no need for Macronix to start producing new memory cards for them now.
Again, this is all speculation but it does line up with what Nintendo had planned to release themselves. If this is, indeed, happening — the Switch could end up getting more memory demanding titles in just the one cardtridge, which is great news for both developers and customers.
