For the longest time, fans of the Super Smash Bros. series have been wanting to see characters from the beloved, and all-time classic Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars being added to the series; particularly fan-favourite characters Mallow and Geno.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is actually a game developed by Square Enix and published by Nintendo, which released in 1996 for the Super Nintendo, so it was a little bit more difficult for characters from this game to be part of the Super Smash Bros. series, as Square Enix also owns the rights.
When Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife was joining the roster in Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, fans saw the opportunity and began to wonder whether the beloved characters from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars could finally be added to Nintendo's popular crossover fighting series.
Alongside the relase of Cloud, however, a Geno Mii Costume was also released for Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, disappointing fans who wanted to see the actual character joining the game's roster, and not just a skin for the Mii Fighters.
A recent episode of All In by GameStop has fans of the Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars excited, as hostess Pamela Horton seemingly revealed that Geno was added — or will be added, for that matter — to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's ambitious roster.
Here's the thing, though, Horton mentions Geno and says that players were excited to see the character being announced as a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the video shows footage of the Geno Spirit that shows up in the game.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has tonnes of Spirits in it, and Geno just happens to be one of them. Fans have been theorising that Horton could've made allusion to an announcement that Nintendo still hasn't made, and that this new All In episode accidentally added this line before the official announcement.
For the longest time, players believed that any character that was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Spirit had zero chances of becoming a real fighter, but all of this changed when ARMS' Min Min joined the game last month, and opening the door for other characters to also join the roster; Geno being one of them, of course.
Rumour has it that Nintendo will be hosting a Nintendo Direct presentation this Monday the 20th of July, and fans believe that Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars' Geno could be announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Until this happens, unfortuntely, this is nothing but speculation.
