November in the U.S. is a very important month for retailers. It includes the Black Friday Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which typically puts sales through the roof, and retailers back in the black on their accounting ledgers.

Nintendo saw the Wii sale 973,000 units in the U.S.

For the same month Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold 768,000 units, and Sony sold 465,000 Playstation 3 consoles.

Hardware sales were impressive, but so were the software sales. According to NPD sales data for this year, software for the Xbox 360 grew by 141%, Nintendo Wii was up 504%, and the Sony Playstation 3 software titles was up 941% compared to the same time last year.

The top selling U.S. game titles for November were:

  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

  • Assassin's Creed
