Yacht Club Games, developers of the highly acclaimed, and brilliant indie title
Shovel Knight, are having the time of their lives today. The reason for this is because their character, Shovel Knight, has finally made it into the
Super Smash Bros. series.
Shovel Knight will show up in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy, which is something that fills the independent developer with joy and pride, and for good reason.
Shovel Knight is a game that took all of its inspiration from titles released for the classic Nintendo Entertainment System, borrowing elementsa from various titles from the 8-Bit era. Not only that but they also improved on the formula without making the game feel like a copy cat of neither of the titles they were inspired by—which, in and of itself, is an amazing feat.
Fans of Yacht Club Games' shoveling knight have been wanting to see him making the
Super Smash Bros. roster pretty much since the game was released for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, especially on the same year both consoles were getting their very own version of
Super Smash Bros. Another thing that made fans think Shovel Knight was a confirmed fighter was the fact that he even got a special amiibo, although sadly that wasn't the case and Shovel Knight never made it into the roster.
Shovel Knight has finally been revealed in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one of the game's assist trophies and, while many fans are slightly disappointed he won't be playable, Yacht Club Games just can't get enough of this news. They have posted on Twitter how excited they are about Shovel Knight being featured in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate—mentioning that the series has made a huge impact on them, bringing them closer together with their friends and family.
In order to celebrate, Yacht Club Games has announced that
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, as well as
Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, are 20% off for Switch users on the Nintendo eShop. They also remind fans that if they purchase
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, there is no need to get
Specter of Torment since it is included in all versions of
Treasure Trove.
If you haven't played the game—or have skipped on any of its expansions—this is the perfect time to dig in and get either
Treasure Trove, or
Specter of Torment. The game is amazing and every fan of platformers, or great games in general, should treat themselves and play Yacht Club Games' masterpiece:
Shovel Knight.
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is the full and complete edition of Shovel Knight, a sweeping classic action adventure game series with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic!
