These days it seems like everyone and their mother want to get into the battle royale type of games. It is definitely a trend that keeps on growing and its popularity mostly comes from YouTube and Twitch streamers that have made the games into household names, without taking any credit from the developers who have programmed such amazing games, of course.
Games like
Fortnite,
Paladins Battlegrounds and
Player Unknown's Battlegrounds are definitely here to stay and a lot of companies have seen the potential the genre has and want to get on that bandwagon, to the point that the genre already seems to be a bit oversaturated.
Well, this time is Activision who has voiced their opinion on the matter and have come out to say that they are even drawing inspiration from such games like
Fortnite.
According to
IGN, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said that the company is "
very good at being inspired" by trends in the industry, especially the new-found popularity of the battle royale genre. This was said during an investor call where Kotick expressed his feelings regarding Fortnite and what the game has done for the genre, saying that the game attracts new gamers of all ages and genders, and mentioning that when they see "
people innovate in an interesting and impactful way, we are very quick to figure out how to capture inspiration from innovation."
"
When we see things that appeal to our audiences, we are very good at being inspired by those."
This actually agrees with the news that we got a while ago saying that
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was doing away with the single player campaign and would
focus on multiplayer, instead. It could well mean that what they have in mind is going for a battle royale experience instead. Fans of the Call of Duty franchise may not be 100% on board with this, though, as the company actually got some criticism on social media because of the news that still hasn't been confirmed.
If we go by Bobby Kotick's sayings during that investor call, then the rumours were right on the money and
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will likely focus on battle royale and not feature a single player campaign.
