Kojima Productions, the video game development studio founded by legendary game director Hideo Kojima, has opened a new division that will deal with ventures beyond the games industry. This new business development team will be based in Los Angeles, USA and revolve around film, television, and music. PlayStation alum Riley Russell shall serve as the division's head.

"The new division will be tasked with working with creative and talented professionals in television, music and film, as well as the more familiar games industry," Russell told GamesIndustry.biz.

"The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture. Although we are a global organization, the new business development team will be centred in Los Angeles, CA. We are truly excited and looking forward to working with the very best entertainment talent we can, across all of the entertainment industries."

Yoshiko Fukuda, Kojima Productions' business development manager, added: "Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever changing storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces."

Kojima himself has previously stated that he would like to venture beyond the gaming realm and even forsaw this very eventuality, Kojima Productions partially becoming a film production company, coming to pass — as you can see in this article from two years ago.

The Metal Gear Solid creator has certainly made a name for himself as a visionary within the gaming sphere so it will definitely be interesting to see what he has in mind for the silver screen.
